Making your own soy candles, Continued.
Your Soy Wax should start melting right away. Most Soy Wax has a melting point of about 125 deg F. Do not melt your
Soy Wax above
175 deg F. After your Soy Wax has completely melted, remove it from the heat. It's time to add your color.
Whether you use liquid dye or block dye, you want to add your color a little at a time. If you have a piece of wax paper, you
can
drip some of your Soy Wax onto the wax paper. when the drops dry you will be able to see what color your Soy Candle will be. If you're
not happy, now is the time to add more dye. Stir the dye in well using the wooden dowl. Now let the Soy Wax cool
to about 135 deg
F, stirring occasionally.
When your Soy Wax drops to 135 deg F, it's time to add your fragrance. Zero out a small cup on your scale (preferably a cup
you don't
plan to drink out of) now weigh out 1.5 oz. of your fragrance and pour it into your 1 pound of Soy Wax. Stirring continuously until
the temperature drops to 125 deg F. Now it's time to pour the hot Soy Wax into your containers.
If you've ever made paraffin candles before, you are going to notice a big difference. With paraffin wax you need to do
multiple pours,
but with Soy Wax, only one pour is required. There is very little shrinkage with Soy Wax. When you pour your wax into your containers,
try to pour very slow and even to reduce bubbles. When you finish pouring your wax, stir the Soy Wax gently. This isn't really required
but I find if I stir after I pour, I end up with a smoother surface. Make sure your wicks are still centered. If not, now is the time
to make adjustments. Your Soy candles will begin to set right away. In a few hours, they should be set enough to trim your wicks.
Let them cure over night. Enjoy them the following day.
